Recently, down garment and down quilt have been listed in the Quality and Safety Supervision Catalogue of 2022 National Key Industrial Products. The catalogue also clearly states the main production area (including but not limited to the listed areas) for different products.

Main production area for down products:

Changshu City, Suzhou City, Jiangshu Province

Zhejiang Province (Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City & Pinghu District, Jiaxing City)

Gongqingcheng City, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province

Guangdong Province (Panyu District & Wuchuan City, Zhanjiang City)

Gangnan District, Guigang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

China – US Trade

On 23^th March, U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced on its website that it will reinstate tariff exclusions for some Chinese imports, which include 0505.10.0050 FEATHER, 0505.10.0055 DOWN, and 9404.90.1000 PILLOW SHELLS OF COTTON, EACH FILLED WITH GOOSE OR DUCK DOWN.

The reinstated product exclusions announced in its notice will apply as of October 12,2021, and extend through December 31, 2022.

Import & Export

According to the data from General Administration of Customs.P.R.China, during Jan-Feb 2022, the total export amount of China down industry was about 360 million USD, with 13.2% increase over the same period. Among all items, the total export amount of raw material was 142 million USD, increased by 20.9%, which accounted for 39.5% of the total export amount of down industry.

The total export amount of down garment was 114 million USD, increased by 4.3%, which accounted for 31.6% of the total export amount of down industry. Down quilt & coverlet accounted for 13.1% of the export amount of down beddings.

During Jan-Feb 2022, the total import amount of China down industry was about 87.25 million USD, decreased by 8.8%. among all items, the total import amount of down garment was about 59.59 million USD, decreased by 12.7%, which accounted for 68.3% of the total import amount of down industry.
